Day 212, of my 2016 sketch a day challenge

Common Blue butterflies sketches

Common Blue butterflies up on the grassy banks of the beach cliffs and in the Marram Grass were enjoying the mornings good weather. The males are striking sitting there with their blue wings open whilst the females are more difficult to spot with their mostly brown wings. Both sexes look the same when they shut their wings and you can only see the undersides and I love the way they alternately move their rear wings up and down.

Covehithe beach

On Covehithe beach just north of Covehithe broad looking north towards Benacre. This is a favorite place of many to walk under the ever changing cliffs that are constantly being eroded by the waves that pound at high tide and especially during storms.

Meadowsweet sketch

Growing on the banks of the River Hundreds at Rushmere in Suffolk is a swathe of meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria). Not obvious from it’s appearance it is a member of the rose family it has tiny fluffy white flowers on top of tall stems. It’s flowers have an almond like sweet smell and once was regularly used on floors and was sacred to the druids.
