It wouldn’t be right living on the East Anglian coast not to include these as they are so deeply embedded into both the local history and indeed my own families past. I love the way the scales sparkle. Herring fishing in East Anglia goes back to the Middle Ages but the heyday was between 1860 and the first word war, sadly by the 1960’s over fishing caused stocks to crash.
An unplanned sketch today as a Herring Gull decided to land on and sit on my car bonnet. Lucky I had my sketch book with me.
Joiners Sliding Bevel
Another from my friend Alain’s Shipbuilding toolbox.
On North denes and no longer at sea sitting close to the old net racks.
Teasels on Carlton Marshes
Love these teasels seed heads growing in among some Phragmites reeds.
