Day 261, of my 2016 sketch a day challenge

Orfordness Lighthouse

Today something I have been planning for some time a trip to Orfordness. The lighthouse is no longer used and now perilously close to falling into the North Sea. Orfordness is owned by the National Trust and accessible from Orford Quay by a quick ferry trip across to the other side of the River Alde.  It is a truly interesting place as it was used for bomb testing and radar development and for many years was was owned by the MOD and was inaccessible to the public.

Day 73, of my 2016 sketch a day challenge

A biting cold stiff easterly wind off the sea today. This view of Orford Castle is from the footpath that leads down to the Quay. There is little dyke full of brambles and phragmites reed through which this view was taken.
